Biography
Formed in 2020 in Pennsylvania, Vulgar Mephitis is an American brutal death metal band known for combining uncompromising violence with intricate technical precision. Initially founded by vocalist Jacob Toy and bassist Jay Schweinberg as a project focused on straightforward, linear brutal death metal, the group gradually expanded its lineup and sound with the addition of guitarist Dan Martin and drummer Nick Bentzel. Following their self-titled debut EP in 2022, which earned early acclaim within extreme metal circles, Vulgar Mephitis established themselves as a formidable new force in the modern brutal technical death metal scene.
In 2026, Vulgar Mephitis signed with extreme metal label Willowtip Records to release their debut full-length album, From Dust. Featuring relentless blast beats, crushing breakdowns, razor-sharp riffing, and Toy’s expansive vocal range—spanning guttural slams to piercing growls—the record solidified their reputation for furious, atmospheric brutality. Drawing comparisons to pioneering brutal death metal acts like Devourment and Cryptopsy, Vulgar Mephitis continues to deliver a punishingly fast and chaotic audial assault.
