Biography
Z CLEAR is a Japanese visual kei band that was originally formed in Hiroshima in August 2018. The band was initially a one-day project, consisting of vocalist Ryon, guitarists Kakeru (翔) and MIYA, and drummer AKIRA. They performed at Hiroshima SECOND CRUTCH on August 28, 2018, before disbanding immediately after the event.
In October 2019, Z CLEAR was reformed by AKIRA, who now took on both vocal and drumming responsibilities, alongside guitarist Miyako (みやこ), who also recorded bass parts. Their first live performance as the reformed Z CLEAR took place on December 3, 2019, at Hiroshima SECOND CRUTCH, coinciding with the release of their debut single, REAL (リアル).

The band continued to perform locally and build a fanbase, playing twoman live events with bands like Waruagaki (ワルアガキ) and Tarareva (タラれば) in 2020. On August 14, 2020, Koichi (こーいち) joined as the official bassist following a twoman live with Tarareva at Hiroshima SECOND CRUTCH. Shortly afterward, on August 22, they released the single PAINT (ペイント).
Throughout 2020, Z CLEAR underwent further lineup changes, with multiple support drummers joining and leaving, including Haru (ハル), who ended his support role in December 2020. The band also released several singles during this period, including Ikiteru Dake de (生きてるだけで) on December 29, 2020, followed by digital singles Fuusen (風船) and PHENOMENON (フェノメノン) on January 2, 2021.
In January 2022, the band officially changed its name to Z CLEAR, and support guitarist Tommy (トミー) became a permanent member, adopting the stage name TOMMY・SOMA (トミー・ソウマ). Koichi also changed his name to Ko-chan (こーちゃん) in December 2022.
The band faced challenges in 2023 when vocalist AKIRA fell ill, causing them to perform without him for a period. On March 8, 2023, Z CLEAR performed with only three members due to AKIRA’s illness, and in April, they temporarily paused live activities for a month to allow AKIRA to recover from a tonsillectomy. During this time, the other members performed an acoustic live without him.
The band released the single ICARUS no Tsubasa (イカロスの翼) on September 16, 2023, and announced several more releases and live performances. They officially moved their base of operations to Tokyo in February 2024, with the single JUNKIE released on February 22, 2024, followed by Drinker on March 28, 2024, and KISS on August 7, 2024.
