Biography
Circo Maximo is a band based in Belgium. The band started in 2011 as a folk-duo. In the years that followed other musicians joined in. In 2021 there are 7 people on stage for every live set. The band describes it's musical genre as "Belgicana". This is a combination of folk, bluegrass, country, americana,... combined with lyrics in Dutch. The band is able to combine these styles by using a variety of instruments that aren't regurarly used in these combinations: bagpipes, resonatorguitar, mandoline, ukulele, banjolele, violon, bass, cajon,..
On December 8th 2019 a first full album was released called "Bataklank" following the release of the EP "Belle Gigue" in 2017. The band wrote and produced all the music themselves. On May 2nd 2025 a new album called "Koper & Goud" will be released.

In May 2019 Circo Maximo won the Utrechts Kleinkunst Festival in The Netherlands despite of the dialect they use in their songs. "The crowd didn't understand every word but somehow they got the message" as the band said afterwards.
