Biography
cult friends (stylized in lowercase) is an American underground, DIY music project known for blending slowcore, dark ambient, and noise-drone soundscapes.
Based in North America, the project functions with a low-profile, collective-style ethos. Its members maintain a degree of mystery, focusing attention on the sound rather than traditional public personas. The group's aesthetic centers on heavily textured, lo-fi production, murky guitars, and buried, ethereal vocals. Their compositions favor atmospheric, lingering tension over conventional song structures. Style-wise, cult friends draws frequent comparisons to artists like Grouper and Midwife, earning an audience in niche internet communities and endorsement from adjacent dark-ambient/slowcore acts like Ethel Cain.
