Ben Beal, under the alias looking at birds, began releasing music in December 2021. However, after roughly a year and a half, he had seen no significant growth. This led him to turn looking at birds into an “experiment” to demonstrate that consistently releasing music is more important for growth than traditional promotion.
After five months of dropping new music every Friday, Ben Beal shared analytics on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that looking at birds had amassed 162,000 streams and over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify—all without any promotion. He continued releasing music frequently but later scaled back to roughly one release per month.
