Biography
naaki soul’s music emerged from the industrial heart of Beijing, CN as nothing more than a high school recording project in a shoebox apartment. For the most part, the singer-songwriter spent her teenage years making songs on her laptop through a stolen interface. Longing for community, she spent all her waking hours on internet forums and sang over first demos through a makeshift pop filter fashioned from panties stretched over a bent coat hanger. Inspired in equal parts by late 90s emo rockers and romanticism, naaki soul’s early output of jagged sounds from the bedroom eventually took shape in the form of a five-piece band, retaining the intimate essence of the project. Now based in Australia, there still remains the familiar warmth of a humming computer. In the dark, pockets of colourful melody bleed through the cans, and long burns the desire to connect with others.
