Biography
The Enclitic (stylized as the:enclitic) was a Deathgrind/Grindcore band from New Hampshire, with members from both Portsmouth and Dover, active from 2000 until 2002. They shared members with Tears Of Avarel, Eyes Like Autumn, Between Two Thieves, The Farewell Chapter, Shallows And Flats, and MMoss. They released two EPs, a split, and three demos during their active run. In 2024, these releases were reissued in the "Surgery For Those Who Can't Admit to Their Disease" full discography compilation, released by the label Sands Of Time Recordings.
The band started when Derek Mabra, the guitarist from Tears Of Avarel, came to watch one of Between Two Thieves' band practices, the band that Eben played in. Derek invited Eben to play in a new band he was starting with his friends Brian, Kevin, and original vocalist Josh, and that band would become The:Enclitic. Their main influence and shared interest was the band Creation Is Crucifixion; the intent behind The:Enclitic was basically to write songs similar to Creation Is Crucifixion, very fast and technical single-note riffs coupled with crunchy low-end breakdown riffs.

They played with this lineup for a year, recording a demo in Derek's basement in Dover, and then another demo in Will Killingsworth's studio. After this first year, Josh left the band, and was replaced by Brian, who was the vocalist in the band The Farewell Chapter at the time.
They planned a small self-financed tour down the east coast, and made it as far as Louisville, KY, before their van broke down. They were stranded in Louisville for a week while the van was getting fixed. Brian quit the band on the first night and drove home with his girlfriend in their own car. And that was the end of the band, they eventually made it home and all went separate ways.
