Biography
Ethereal Rot is an American blackened technical death metal band from Portland, Maine, formed in 2019. They deliver a punishing, dynamic blend of technical death metal precision with blackened atmospheres, dissonance, and versatile extreme vocals.
The band explores themes of war, apocalypse, Lovecraftian/cosmic horror, death, and related cosmic dread. Their sound features complex riffing, atmospheric dread, monstrous heaviness, and highly versatile vocals ranging from deep gutturals and mid-range death metal bellows to tortured black metal shrieks—often within the same song. Comparisons include Cattle Decapitation, Deeds of Flesh, Lorna Shore, Suffocation, and The Zenith Passage. They are independent/self-released and record/produce much of their material in-house (with Taylor Belanger involved in recent production at Granite Tomb Productions).
