Biography
Eye of Purgatory is a Swedish death metal band from Gamleby, Kalmar, formed in 2018. They specialize in classic Swedish death metal with strong melodic elements, atmospheric synths/keyboards, and a mix of crushing riffs, thrashy aggression, and emotive leads—often drawing comparisons to Edge of Sanity, early Cemetary, Desultory, Paganizer, and bands like Wombbath.
The project is a vehicle for the ultra-prolific Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Ribspreader, and countless others), who infuses his trademark buzzsaw riffs and melodic sensibility into a sound that balances old-school heaviness with haunting, atmospheric touches (especially via keyboards). It started as a more solo-oriented effort before expanding into a tight trio.
