Biography
Miserere Luminis is an atmospheric black metal band formed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 2008. It brings together Icare and Neptune of Gris with Annatar of Sombres Forêts. Their music places harsh vocals and dissonant guitars within extended arrangements that also incorporate piano and strings.
The project began as a collaboration between the two bands. Although a split release was initially considered, the musicians instead wrote and recorded together, producing the self-titled album Miserere Luminis, released by Sepulchral Productions in November 2009. It was conceived as a one-off recording and theatrical live project rather than a permanent third band.

That changed around 2018, following a performance at Sepulchral Productions’ fifteenth-anniversary festival. The members began treating Miserere Luminis as an ongoing group, eventually returning with Ordalie in June 2023. Its credits reflect their overlapping roles: Annatar contributes guitar and vocals, Neptune plays guitar, bass, piano and saxophone, and Icare handles drums, vocals and strings.
Their third album, Sidera, was released by Debemur Morti Productions on March 6, 2026. Much of its material was written during the same period as Ordalie, and the band describes the records as connected parts of a larger musical and lyrical work. Neptune wrote the French-language lyrics for both, exploring suffering and the search for meaning.
The group’s masked stage presentation is also part of its collaborative approach. Neptune has explained that the masks are intended to reduce the emphasis on individual personalities and direct attention toward the music and the emotions it conveys.
