Biography
Toadeater was a German Post-black metal band from Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, active from 2018 to 2024. Their sound combined abrasive black metal riffs, harsh vocals and relentless drumming with elements of crust punk, hardcore and post-metal. Characterised by dynamic songwriting, dissonant melodies and shifts between ferocious aggression and slower, atmospheric passages, their music balanced raw intensity with a bleak and introspective atmosphere. The result was an intense and emotionally charged sound that moved between outright aggression and moments of haunting desolation.
Toadeater's lyrics explored social criticism, alienation and existential despair. Their songwriting often moved between explosive, confrontational sections and extended instrumental passages, creating a sense of tension and emotional unease. Their 2019 debut album Codex established their approach to post-black metal, while Bit to ewigen daogen (2020) further developed their sound. Their final full length, Bexadde (2022), presented four extended compositions centred on painful truths, uncertainty, hopelessness and psychological distress.
