Biography

Tsjuder is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Oslo in 1993. The band has primarily operated as a trio, with bassist and vocalist Nag, guitarist Draugluin and drummer Anti-Christian among its long-term members. After Anti-Christian's departure, Tsjuder continued as a duo. Nag and Draugluin have been the band's principal members.

The name Tsjuder was taken from the Norwegian film "Pathfinder" ("Veiviseren"), in which the Tsjuder, also known as Chud, are depicted as a mythical Northern Finnic tribe and serve as antagonists.

Nag and guitarist Berserk formed Tsjuder in Oslo in 1993, with guitarist Draugluin joining in 1994. After a year of rehearsing and songwriting, the band recorded its first demo, "Ved Ferdens Ende". Berserk subsequently left the band. For its second demo, "Possessed", recorded in 1996, Tsjuder added drummer Torvus. Torvus was replaced by Desecrator the following year. Alongside American guitarist Diabolus Mort, the band recorded the EP "Throne of the Goat", which was released by Solistitium Records in 1997.

In 1998, Diabolus Mort and Desecrator left the band, citing a lack of interest. Tsjuder planned a full-length album with Blod of Gehenna on drums and Arak Draconiiz of Isvind as guitarist. The promotional recording "Atum Nocturnem" was produced as rehearsal material for Blod. It was released by At War Records in 1999. Later that year, Tsjuder signed a two-album contract with Drakkar Productions and recorded its debut studio album, "Kill for Satan". As Blod was unable to participate in the band's planned tour in 2000, Christian "Anti-Christian" Svendsen joined as drummer.

Following the release of "Kill for Satan", Arak Draconiiz moved away from Oslo and was replaced by Pål. In October 2001, Svendsen left the band after developing tendinitis in both arms, while Pål departed because of his working hours. Jontho of Ragnarok replaced Svendsen on drums. This lineup recorded Tsjuder's second studio album, "Demonic Possession", between December 2001 and January 2002. Drakkar Productions released the album in 2002. That year, the Norwegian label Mester Productions also reissued "Throne of the Goat" as a limited-edition picture disc, with 666 copies produced.

Svendsen returned to Tsjuder in 2003, replacing Jontho. The band signed with Season of Mist in April 2004 and released its third studio album, "Desert Northern Hell", in November of that year. Tsjuder toured Europe with Carpathian Forest in early 2005.

Tsjuder disbanded in 2006. The band reunited to perform at Wacken Open Air in August 2011 and subsequently resumed touring. Its fourth studio album, "Legion Helvete", was released in October 2011, followed by "Antiliv" in September 2015. The band's sixth studio album, "Helvegr", was released in June 2023.
